DENR closes 3 resorts in Upper Marikina River Basin for operating without permits

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has ordered the closure of three resorts operating without permits within the Upper Marikina River Basin Protected Landscape (UMRBPL) in Baras, Rizal.

DENR Assistant Secretary for Legal Affairs and Enforcement Atty. Norlito Eneran identified the resorts as Danum Baker Resort, Erin's Place, and Lihim na Batis, all found to be in violation of environmental laws.

A composite enforcement team physically enforced cease and desist orders (CDOs) on October 3rd, with the participation of local officials including Mayor Wilfredo C. Robles.

At Danum Baker Resort, the main gate was padlocked and a "CLOSED" poster was placed after previous warnings were ignored.

Erin's Place and Lihim na Batis, sharing a common entrance, were already locked and unattended, so the enforcement team posted "CLOSED" posters on their gate instead of padlocking it to maintain community access.
