Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. has directed the Armed Forces of the Philippines to ensure the security and integrity of the Bangsamoro parliamentary elections in October.
He stressed that the election is a milestone in the democratic journey of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Teodoro met with Maj. Gen. Donald Gumiran, 6th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Central chief, and other senior officers to discuss security measures.
He reminded the military of the importance of non-partisanship and urged them to ensure that the vote is free from political interference for a peaceful and credible election.
Maj. Gen. Gumiran assured Teodoro of the readiness and dedication of the 6th Infantry Division and the task force in protecting the BARMM people's right to choose leaders.
Also present at the command conference were Armed Forces chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., Army chief Lt. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, acting Western Mindanao Command chief Brig. Gen. Romulo Quemado II and 1st Infantry Division chief Maj. Gen. Yegor Rey Barroquillo Jr.
