The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has released PHP1.347 billion for the expansion of the electronic gates (e-gates) project in the Philippines' major international airports and seaports.
The funds will enhance security and immigration processes at gateways including Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Clark International Airport, Mactan Cebu International Airport, Davao International Airport, Kalibo International Airport, Boracay-Caticlan International Airport, Zamboanga International Seaport, Laoag International Airport, Bohol-Panglao International Airport, and Puerto Princesa International Airport.
Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman stated the release fulfills President Bongbong Marcos' directive to provide convenience to travelers and reduce immigration queues.
She noted that P1.976 billion was released in 2024 for Phase 1 procurement, with the project continuing through Phase 3 in 2026.
The Philippines is currently in Phase 2 of the e-gates project, and the BI has been urged to expedite the procurement process for full operationalization.
