Davao City police director, 19 station commanders relieved due to crime stat discrepancies

The director of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) and 19 station commanders were relieved from their posts due to severe discrepancies in crime statistics and inadequate response times.

Police Regional Office 11 (PRO-11) director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III made the decision after a review of crime statistics allegedly revealed 22 killings and 41 rape cases in Davao City from January to May this year.

PRO-11 spokesperson Police Major Catherine Dela Rey stated that the reassignment of officers is part of ongoing efforts to maintain the integrity and effectiveness of the local police force.

Torre noted that the crime data suggests a community where killings occur seven times more frequently than physical assaults, which is inconsistent with Davao City's reputation as a very safe city.

The relieved officers were replaced by individuals from Police Provincial Offices and the PRO-11 regional headquarters and reassigned to various offices of PRO-10.

This move is a standard reassignment procedure and is not connected to the serving of arrest warrants on Pastor Apollo Quiboloy on June 10, 2024.
