Davao City eases lockdown rules under GCQ

Davao City transitioned to a general community quarantine (GCQ) on May 16, easing some lockdown restrictions until May 31.

Mayor Sara Duterte reminded residents to strictly observe health protocols to prevent a spike in coronavirus cases.

She reiterated that the city government can impose localized lockdowns in areas that record more cases, with options for house, street, or compound lockdowns.

The city has 179 coronavirus cases, with 25 deaths, 82 recoveries, and 72 active cases.

Outdoor activities like long-distance runs or nature hikes are still not permitted, and residents are allowed to exercise or get fresh air near their homes.

Movement remains limited to essential purposes such as buying food and medicine, or for work, with a curfew in effect from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Jeepneys are allowed to operate with strict distancing rules and plastic barriers, and the city government will continue to provide free bus rides.

The city government is also increasing the number of coronavirus isolation facilities.
