Negros farmers get land, debt relief
The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has condoned PHP1.834 billion in loans, debts, and interest for 11,179 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) in the Negros Island Region (NIR).
This relief covers 8,860.15 hectares of land and was formalized through the distribution of 19,244 Certificates of Condonation with Release of Mortgage (CoCrom).
DAR Secretary Conrado Estrella III personally distributed the certificates and led the turnover of land titles generated under the New Lands Program and Project SPLIT in Bago City, Negros Occidental.
Among the beneficiaries was 65-year-old Nelson Agotmo, who expressed gratitude for the debt condonation that freed him from his amortization for 30 years.
This debt condonation is part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s administration's efforts to expedite support for ARBs, covering all loans, interests, and penalties incurred by ARBs for lands awarded under specific agrarian reform laws.
