Pres Marcos Jr. launches Dalian trains for MRT-3

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the launch of commercial operations for the Dalian trains on the MRT-3 line, over a decade after their acquisition.

Initially, three train sets, comprising nine coaches, have been deployed.

The deployment of these trains is expected to reduce the waiting time between trains on the MRT-3 from four minutes to 2.5 minutes, increasing the line's capacity.

The 48 light rail vehicles were purchased in 2014 from CCRC Dalian Co. and delivered in 2016, but remained unused due to technical compatibility issues.

Modifications to the trains were completed without additional cost to the Philippine government.

A full technical audit was conducted by TUV Rheinland, followed by final safety checks by Sumitomo Corporation.
