DA to launch PHP20/kg rice program in Cebu

The Department of Agriculture (DA) will launch a pilot program selling rice at PHP20 per kilogram, with an initial rollout in Cebu province starting in the first week of May.

A DA-BAI Kadiwa Center in Quezon City will also offer the discounted rice starting May 2.

This initiative aims to improve food security, accessibility, and affordability as part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s campaign promises.

Approximately 600,000 sacks of rice will be allocated for Cebu, with deliveries starting within May.

The DA is coordinating the release of rice from the National Food Authority (NFA) for this initiative.

The National Food Authority (NFA) has also increased its buffer stock to support the program.

Each family will be limited to purchasing 10 kg of rice weekly, or a maximum of 40 kg per month.
