DA sets up temporary care center for volcano-displaced livestock

The Department of Agriculture (DA) established a temporary care center for livestock and pets displaced by the Taal volcano eruption, now housing around 70 rescued animals.

The Taal Livestock Care Emergency Operations Center in Lipa City, Batangas, provides free feeds, veterinary supplies, and care to ensure the genetic preservation of livestock.

DA Secretary William Dar assured that the department would care for the animals while owners are in evacuation centers.

Affected residents can leave their animals at the center and receive financial assistance equivalent to 50 percent of their animal's value upon depositing them.

The animals, limited to cattle, carabao, goats, horses, and sheep, can be retrieved once the situation in Taal returns to normal.

The DA is also providing aid to affected farmers through the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation for insured animals and farm produce.
