The Department of Agriculture (DA) has launched a P20-per-kilo rice program in Davao City to help low-income families and support local farmers.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. stated that the subsidized rice is available to senior citizens, solo parents, persons with disabilities, minimum wage earners, farmers, fisherfolk, and transport workers.
The program, a collaboration with Kadiwa, Food Terminal Inc., and the National Food Authority (NFA), is now available in over 376 locations nationwide.
In the Davao Region, P20 rice is now sold in Hagonoy, Digos, Bansalan, Mati, Panabo, Tagum, and key DA and NFA offices.
The initiative utilizes inventory from NFA warehouses, freeing up space for the agency to purchase more domestic rice at prices significantly higher than those offered by private traders.
Secretary Tiu Laurel emphasized that this program aims to bolster national food security and guarantee access to safe and affordable rice for all Filipinos.
