16K minimum wage earners benefit from P20/kilo rice launch
The "Benteng Bigas Meron (BBM) Na for Minimum Wage Earners" program, a joint initiative of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), was launched to offer subsidized rice at P20 per kilogram.
Over 16,000 minimum wage earners from 100 establishments nationwide have already benefited from the program's nationwide rollout.
Specifically, around 800 rank-and-file port workers were able to purchase five kilos of rice each during the program's launch at the Manila Harbor Center.
The program, spearheaded by DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., is part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s commitment to make basic commodities more affordable.
DOLE Officer-in-Charge Benjo Santos emphasized that the P20 per kilo rice is a reality and a fulfillment of the President's promise to prioritize Filipino workers' welfare.
