Cordillera SUCs face significant budget cuts for 2026

Students in the Cordillera region are expressing deep concern over significant proposed budget cuts to their State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) for 2026.

Six out of seven SUCs in the Cordillera are slated to experience funding reductions across various categories.

Mountain Province State University (MPSU) faces the second-largest percentage cut nationwide, losing 66% of its budget, with its capital outlay drastically reduced by 99%.

The University of Abra and Apayao State College are also among the ten hardest-hit institutions nationally due to budget reductions.

Specifically, the University of Abra will see a 48% cut, while Apayao State College faces a 21% reduction.

Other affected institutions include Kalinga State University, which will have its budget reduced by 15%, and Benguet State University, whose capital outlay will decrease by 46% despite an overall budget increase.

The University of the Philippines System, including UP Baguio, is projected to have a substantial ₱21 billion budget deficit.
