Comelec to issue show-cause orders to candidates over illegal donations

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to issue show-cause orders (SCOs) to candidates who ran in the May 2022 elections and allegedly received illegal campaign donations from contractors this week.

Poll chief George Erwin Garcia stated that the Political Finance and Affairs Department (PFAD) has begun summoning representatives of 27 public works contractors previously flagged for alleged illicit campaign contributions, who were issued SCOs earlier this month.

After the contractors respond to their show-cause orders, the Comelec will then issue SCOs to the candidates who received donations from these 27 contractors.

Garcia indicated that the PFAD will immediately decide on the cases of the candidates once they respond to their respective issues.
