Comelec starts removing campaign materials in prohibited areas

Election officials in Metro Cebu have begun removing campaign materials posted in prohibited areas as the 90-day campaign period for national positions commences.

The nationwide activity by the Comelec targets materials placed on government-owned facilities, along national highways, and outside designated common poster areas.

In Mandaue City, Comelec officials collaborated with local traffic, police, and DPWH personnel for the removal operation.

Meanwhile, Comelec-Taguig has ordered national candidates, political parties, and party-list groups to remove their campaign materials posted outside designated common poster areas.

Election Officer Edgar Feliciano Aringay warned that failure to remove the materials would lead to the presumption that the candidate or party was responsible for posting them.

Campaign materials on private properties cannot be removed without the owner's consent, and prohibited forms of election propaganda must be removed at least 72 hours before the start of the campaign period.
