Comelec suspends voter registration in NCR Plus areas due to ECQ

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has suspended voter registration in the NCR Plus areas (National Capital Region, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, and Cavite) from March 29 to April 2, 2021, due to the reimposed enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

COMELEC spokesperson James Jimenez announced that offices within NCR Plus would suspend work, including voter registration applications, from March 29 to March 31.

Additionally, no voter registration services will be available on April 1 and 2, coinciding with Holy Week.

The suspension follows COMELEC's earlier decision to shorten registration hours due to a COVID-19 surge.

The nationwide voter registration, which resumed in September 2020, is scheduled to end on September 30, 2021, with COMELEC aiming to register approximately 4 million new voters for the May 2022 elections.
