Comelec streamlines gun ban exemption process

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has recalibrated its guidelines for gun ban exemptions to create a more efficient system.

Amendments to Comelec Resolution No. 10728 aim to decentralize the granting of exemption certificates to regional directors and election officers.

Justices, judges, prosecutors, and the Ombudsman will receive automatic exemption.

The Committee on the Ban on Firearms and Security Concerns (CBFSC) was given one week to finalize these amendments.

The CBFSC will also ensure regional directors and election officers have the capacity to handle the task and will consult with partners.

The Comelec en banc has restated its resolution to expedite the processing of all pending applications before the CBFSC.

Certificates of authority will expire on June 8, the end of the election period, and can be revoked.
