Comelec starts trusted build for BARMM polls

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has initiated the trusted build process for the automated election system (AES) for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliamentary Elections.

Modifications to the source code were necessary to comply with the BARMM Election Code, which mandates the inclusion of candidate photos and political party logos on ballots.

Comelec Chairperson George Garcia emphasized that changing the source code requires a new trusted build to generate an updated program version, as stipulated by law.

The Comelec also kicked off the local source code review (LSCR) for the AES in connection with the upcoming elections.

This LSCR process began on July 17 at Circuit Makati, following the start of the trusted build generation.

Comelec Executive Director Teopisto Elnas Jr. explained that this repetition of processes, including trusted build, customization, and certification, is necessary due to the mandated ballot changes.
