Comelec sees higher overseas voter turnout

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) anticipates a significantly higher voter turnout for overseas Filipinos in the 2022 elections compared to previous polls.

Comelec Commissioner Marlon Casquejo noted that in some areas like Hong Kong, about 30% of Filipinos have already voted since April 10, while other countries reported about 20%.

He stated that the current voter turnout has already exceeded their target of over 30 percent, which is much higher than the 20% or less turnout in previous elections.

There are approximately 1.7 million Filipinos registered to vote abroad for the 2022 elections.

Overseas voting commenced on April 10 and will conclude on Election Day, May 9.

Casquejo cited the Comelec's new "vote anywhere" and field voting concepts as reasons for the improved turnout.
