Comelec removes 755,769 deceased voters from 2022 rolls

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has removed 755,769 deceased voters from the rolls for the Eleksyon 2022, covering records from August 2019 to October 2021.

However, Comelec Commissioner George Garcia is appealing to relatives of deceased voters to report deaths to expedite the removal process.

The poll body currently relies on data from local civil registrars, which can be problematic if individuals die outside their registered city or town.

To address this, the Comelec has requested the Philippine Statistics Authority to provide a complete list of deceased individuals to their main office for distribution to field offices.

The poll watchdog Kontra Daya had previously urged the Comelec to ensure an up-to-date master list of voters and called for better coordination between Comelec, the Philippine Statistics Authority, and civil registries.
