Comelec reminds candidates campaign period ends Saturday

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has reminded candidates that campaign activities must end on Saturday, May 7, as campaigning is prohibited on Sunday, the eve of the May 9 national and local elections.

Comelec Commissioner George Garcia emphasized that Saturday is the final day for candidates to solicit votes.

Garcia urged the public to help combat vote-buying, fake news, and violence on Sunday, prioritizing the nation's interests.

The Omnibus Election Code explicitly prohibits campaigning on the day before and the day of the election.

Violating the campaign period rules is considered an election offense.

The Comelec official stressed the importance of each vote and encouraged citizens not to sell their votes, highlighting the future of the country as being at stake.

Garcia appealed to everyone to exercise their right to vote on election day.
