Comelec wants 3 PNP officials out over poll officer ambush

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has recommended the relief of three top Philippine National Police (PNP) officials in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The recommendation, made by Commissioner Aimee Ferolino, cites the officials' alleged failure to respond to security concerns raised before the fatal ambush of a local election officer.

Elections Commissioner Aimee Ferolino stated that the commission will no longer allow further harm to come to its personnel.

The officials recommended for relief are PBGen. Romeo Macapaz, Police Regional Director of PRO-BAR; PCol. Eleuterio Ricardo Jr., Police Provincial Director of Maguindanao del Norte; and PCol. Ryan Bobby Paloma, Police Provincial Director of Maguindanao del Sur.

PBGen. Macapaz stated he would respect the decision of the police leadership but denied any neglect of duty.
