Comelec: Fund deficit for barangay, SK polls P3 billion in 2025, P6 billion by 2026
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) requires an additional P3 billion if the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections are held in December 2025, a deficit expected to rise to P6 billion to P9 billion if the elections are postponed to 2026.

Garcia explained that the proposed P11.5-billion budget for 2026 does not account for the expected increase in voters, with an additional 2.8 million voters registering from August 1 to August 10.
The poll body currently has a P10-billion continuing appropriations budget for the BSKE, which were last held in October 2023.
Despite the funding concerns, Comelec has continued preparations for the elections, including the procurement of new ballot boxes.
