Comelec names PDP-Laban dominant majority party

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has declared the PDP-Laban as the dominant majority party and the Nacionalista Party as the dominant minority party for the upcoming May 9 elections.

This designation grants preferential space in canvassing and consolidation centers to the watchers of these dominant parties if space is insufficient.

The PDP-Laban was named the dominant majority party for getting the highest weighted average points of 55.74.

The Comelec's resolution does not specify which faction of the PDP-Laban receives this recognition.

However, the Comelec stated that pending the resolution of a petition filed by the Cusi wing of the PDP-Laban, the party will be treated as a single entity for the purpose of determining dominant and major parties.

The PDP-Laban has expressed confidence that its local and national candidates will win the May 9 elections.

Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, PDP Laban president, expressed gratitude for the decision, stating the party expects to finish strong and is confident of victory nationwide.
