Comelec names Lakas-CMD, NP dominant parties for 2025 polls

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has declared Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) as the dominant majority party and the Nacionalista Party as the dominant minority party for the upcoming May 12, 2025 National and Local Elections.

Nine other major political parties were also named: Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), Akbayan Citizens Action Party, Liberal Party of the Philippines, Nationalist People's Coalition, National Unity Party, Partido Demokratiko Reporma, United Nationalist Alliance, and Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.

Speaker Martin Romualdez stated that the designation is a significant moment and a reaffirmation of Lakas-CMD's legacy of leadership.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia explained that the selection was primarily based on the parties' history and the number of their members, including incumbents and candidates.

The dominant majority and minority parties will be entitled to one official poll watcher per precinct and canvassing center.

Additionally, they will be furnished with hard copies of election returns and will have their own servers for quick counting and counter-checking of results.
