Comelec launches Operation Baklas to remove illegal campaign materials

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has launched "Operation Baklas" to remove illegal campaign materials nationwide, starting in the National Capital Region (NCR) on February 16.

The operation, which began with national candidates' materials, aims to ensure compliance with rules on posting and sizes of campaign materials.

Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez stated that "Operation Baklas" is a region-wide activity with more events planned in the coming days.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) are partnering with Comelec for this initiative.

The campaign period for national candidates began on February 8, making their materials the initial focus of removal.

Previous "Operation Baklas" initiatives in other cities, like Koronadal City, have involved local government units such as the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Philippine National Police.
