Comelec issues show-cause orders to 52 contractors for alleged illegal donations

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has identified 52 contractors who may have made donations to candidates during the 2022 elections.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia stated that show-cause orders will be issued to these 52 contractors, requiring them to explain within five days why they should not be held liable for giving prohibited donations.

The investigation was expanded to include gubernatorial and vice gubernatorial candidates, leading to the increase in the number of contractors.

These contractors donated to candidates for senator, party-lists, governors, and vice governors.

Following the contractors, the Comelec will also issue show-cause orders to the candidates and political parties who received these donations.

Candidates found to have received prohibited donations may face administrative sanctions if they accepted them while holding government positions.
