Comelec identifies 12 BARMM towns as election hotspots

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has identified 12 municipalities in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) as election hotspots for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

These 12 municipalities are classified under the "red category," signifying the highest level of concern due to a history of election-related violence and the presence of armed groups that could disrupt the election process.

Six of these areas are in Lanao del Sur: Lumba-Bayabao, Masiu, Mulondo, Poona Bayabao, Taparan, and Taraka.

Five are in Maguindanao del Sur: Buluan, Datu Paglas, Mangudadatu, Paglat, and Pandag.

Al-Barka in Basilan is the remaining municipality in the red category.

Despite these identified hotspots, Comelec Chairman George Garcia stated that the overall peace and order situation in BARMM is generally peaceful, and no area has been placed under Comelec control yet.

The first parliamentary elections in BARMM are scheduled for October 13.
