Comelec creates task force for election surveys

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has established Task Force Respeto, led by the Political Finance and Affairs Department (PFAD), to oversee the registration of organizations and individuals conducting election-related surveys.

Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia stated that the task force will enforce guidelines on the regulation of survey firms.

However, media entities, religious organizations, cause-oriented groups, civic organizations, and educational institutions are exempt from this registration requirement.

The Comelec has scheduled a meeting with approximately six known survey firms on Thursday, February 27, to discuss and finalize the guidelines for monitoring election surveys.

Garcia also urged media outlets and other organizations to disclose who commissioned and paid for surveys, as well as the scientific methods used, when publishing survey results.
