Comelec eyes fastest national canvassing by Thursday

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is aiming to complete the canvassing of votes for the 2025 midterm elections on Thursday, three days after Filipinos cast their votes.

If completed today, it would be the fastest national canvassing in Philippine election history.

Comelec Chairperson George Garcia expressed confidence in the speedy process, which has already seen the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) canvass a record 58 Certificates of Canvass (COCs) on the first day out of a total of 175.

This is a significant improvement compared to traditional canvassing, which could take up to two weeks in the automated election era or over a month in manual counting.

As of Wednesday, only about 15 COCs remained to be canvassed, with the Comelec confident that the process will conclude on Thursday afternoon.
