Comelec en banc disqualifies Tarlac mayor over residency

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc has disqualified Tarlac City Mayor Susan Yap-Sulit in the 2025 elections due to residency issues.

This decision reverses a previous resolution by the Comelec Second Division, which had dismissed the petition against Yap.

The en banc found that the Second Division had misappreciated the evidence and reversed its earlier ruling.

Comelec Chair George Erwin Garcia stated that the disqualification ruling has become final and executory as no temporary restraining order was issued by the Supreme Court.

Consequently, Yap-Sulit's proclamation as mayor is annulled, and the incumbent vice-mayor will succeed her.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) will implement the decision.

Yap-Sulit stated she will exhaust all legal remedies and emphasized her connection to Tarlac City and respect for the people's vote.
