PNP validates 26 election-related violent incidents as of March 1

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has validated 26 election-related violent incidents since October, as of March 1, 2025, according to Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairperson George Erwin Garcia.

Most of these incidents occurred in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and the tally does not include recent incidents in Abra and Lanao del Sur.

The Comelec, along with law enforcement and military agencies, is closely monitoring the security situation and reviewing the security classification of various areas.

Garcia urged the PNP to reassess the security situation in the BARMM, which is seeing a rise in violence.

Previously, the Comelec had identified 38 areas of grave concern, or "red" areas, with 32 located in the BARMM.

These areas could be placed under Comelec control, with other classifications including "green" for peaceful areas, "yellow" for areas with a history of election-related incidents, and "orange" for areas of immediate concern.
