Comelec to file material misrepresentation charges vs Alice Guo

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will file charges against former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo before the Tarlac Regional Trial Court for alleged material misrepresentation during the 2022 elections.

The Comelec en banc adopted the recommendation from its law department to file the case, citing probable cause due to Guo's alleged false qualifications and intent to mislead voters.

Guo is accused of violating Section 74 in relation to Section 262 of the Omnibus Election Code.

Her camp had argued that the case is premature and questioned the validity of evidence presented by the NBI.

Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia stated that the law department will issue a notice on the resolution, giving the former mayor a few days to consider legal remedies.

The Comelec is also considering a venue transfer for the case, potentially to Metro Manila.
