Clooneys discuss press freedom with PBBM

International human rights lawyer Amal Clooney and actor George Clooney met with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to discuss press freedom and the protection of Filipino journalists.

Amal Clooney also emphasized the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to broaden access to justice during the meeting.

President Marcos Jr. welcomed the idea of AI and stressed the need for responsible regulation for its ethical and secure use, reaffirming the administration's commitment to upholding press freedom.

The Clooneys are in the Philippines to participate in Rappler's Social Good Summit, where Amal Clooney is scheduled to join Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Ressa for a discussion on global challenges of free speech and civil liberties.

First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos found her encounter with the Clooneys inspiring, particularly their work in upholding human rights and press freedom.

She expressed admiration for their passion in fighting for the vulnerable, anchored in the rule of law.
