Mapua's Clint Escamis named NCAA MVP and Rookie of the Year

Clint Escamis of Mapua University has been awarded the NCAA Season 99 men's basketball MVP and Rookie of the Year.

He achieved a Player Average Value (PAV) of 53.16, with averages of 16.28 points, 5.83 rebounds, 4.22 assists and 3.78 steals per game.

Escamis joins an elite group as the fifth player to win both the MVP and Rookie of the Year awards.

The Mythical Five includes Escamis, Warren Bonifacio, Enoch Valdez, Art Roque, and JP Maguliano.

Rommel Calahat of San Sebastian received the Defensive Player of the Year award, while Art Roque was named the Most Improved Player.

Jay Garupil of Letran won the Freshman of the Year award.

Despite receiving the MVP award, Escamis and Mapua University fell short in Game 2 of the NCAA Finals against San Beda University, forcing a do-or-die Game 3.

Escamis acknowledged San Beda's defense played a factor in his performance, but stated that receiving the honors only fueled his determination to win the championship.
