Classes suspended in Eastern Visayas, Bicol due to shear line rains

Several local government units in the Eastern Visayas and Bicol Region suspended classes on Monday, January 5, due to continuous rain caused by the shear line.

The shear line is actively affecting the Bicol Region and parts of the Visayas, leading to overcast skies and rainfall.

In Eastern Visayas, class suspensions were declared in Tacloban City, Tanauan, Babatngon, Northern Samar, Caibiran in Biliran, Culaba in Biliran, San Policarpio in Eastern Samar, and several towns in Leyte including Carigara, Dulag, Palo, San Miguel, Tabontabon, and Tacloban, with suspensions for all levels unless otherwise specified.

The Bicol Region also saw class suspensions, with Caramoan in Camarines Sur suspending classes for all levels in both public and private institutions.

PAGASA warned of heavy rains brought by the shear line, which may persist until Monday, stating that rainfall could be higher in mountainous and elevated areas and that impacts may be worsened by earlier rains.

Areas forecast to experience 50-100 mm of rains from Sunday to Monday include Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, and Biliran, Leyte, and Southern Leyte.
