Classes at all levels and government work in Metro Manila and 35 other provinces were suspended on July 25 due to Typhoon Emong, Tropical Storm Dante, and the southwest monsoon.

The suspension was ordered by Malacañang through Memorandum Circular 93, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.

Affected areas include Ilocos Sur, Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, Ilocos Norte, and several other provinces in Luzon and nearby islands.

Essential government personnel and emergency responders are exempted from the suspension.

Non-vital government employees in affected areas may adopt alternative work arrangements, such as work-from-home, as determined by their agency heads.

Typhoon Emong was forecast to intensify and make landfall in northern Luzon by Friday morning.
