CIDG arrests 5 for illegal quarrying in Negros Oriental

Five individuals, identified as Segundino, Elizar, Armando, Romel, and Reymart Segundino, were apprehended by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Bacong, Negros Oriental, for allegedly engaging in illegal quarrying operations.

The operation was initiated following intelligence reports of unauthorized mineral extraction activities in Barangay Isugan.

The suspects were caught in the act of unauthorized exploration, extraction, and disposition of mineral resources without the necessary permits from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) and other authorities.

Authorities confiscated three dump trucks filled with sand and boulder minerals, along with mining equipment worth P1.3 million.

The arrested individuals will face charges for violating Section 103 of Republic Act 7942, the Philippine Mining Act of 1995, specifically for theft of minerals.

CIDG Director Police Major General Nicolas Torre III reiterated that all mineral resources belong to the State and urged the public to report violations.
