BI nabs Chinese fugitive in Makati City
A Chinese fugitive, Chen Xiao Bang, wanted for economic crimes in his home country, has been apprehended by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Makati City.
The BI's Fugitive Search Unit arrested Chen on July 2, armed with a deportation warrant issued by the BI Board of Commissioners.
Chen is considered an undocumented alien as his passport has been revoked by the Chinese government.
He arrived in the Philippines on August 25, 2019, and is accused of defrauding Chinese investors of over 3 million Chinese yuan (more than $412,000) through a fraudulent investment scam since 2018.
Chen is currently detained at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City while awaiting deportation to China, which will proceed once all necessary clearances are obtained.
