China reports more imported virus cases than local ones

Mainland China reported 11 new confirmed coronavirus cases on Friday, with seven being imported from overseas, surpassing locally transmitted infections for the first time.

The four locally transmitted cases were all in Hubei province, where new infections have fallen for nine consecutive days.

The imported cases were detected in travelers from Italy, the United States, Saudi Arabia, France, and Spain, with infections confirmed in Shanghai, Beijing, and Gansu.

The total number of imported cases in mainland China reached 95 by the end of Friday.

The death toll in mainland China from the coronavirus reached 3,189 by the end of Friday, with all 13 new deaths occurring in Hubei, including 10 in Wuhan.

The total number of confirmed cases in mainland China is now 80,824.

Globally, over 138,000 people have been infected and more than 5,000 have died.
