China deploys drone in Bajo de Masinloc amid escalating dispute

China has reportedly deployed a drone in Bajo de Masinloc, escalating the maritime dispute with Manila.

The drone was observed during a recent patrol by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and was accompanied by four China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels, a People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy ship, and four Chinese maritime militia.

CCG vessels were also seen deploying floating barriers at the entrance of Bajo de Masinloc whenever Philippine vessels were present.

Other CCG vessels engaged in dangerous maneuvers to prevent PCG and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) vessels from approaching the shoal.

PCG spokesperson Commodore Jay Tarriela stated that the drone took off from CCG 3105 and flew over the area.
