China congratulates PH on successful elections

China congratulated the Philippines on the successful and smooth conduct of its national and local elections held on May 9.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian extended greetings to the "leading candidates" in the presidential and vice presidential races.

He expressed hope that various political forces in the Philippines will unite for national renewal and development.

Zhao expressed hope that under the next administration, Beijing and Manila will be able to continue the "flourishing relationship" established by President Xi Jinping and President Rodrigo Duterte.

He highlighted the traditional friendship between China and the Philippines, describing them as good partners in mutually-beneficial cooperation and fellow travelers on the road to common development.

He also noted that bilateral relations have steadily improved under the guidance of their heads of state, benefiting both peoples and contributing to regional peace and stability.
