Chavit Singson confirms talks to buy Miss Universe Organization

Businessman-politician Luis "Chavit" Singson confirmed he is in discussions to acquire the Miss Universe Organization (MUO), viewing it as a gift for pageant-loving Filipinos.

Singson expressed belief that the current owners, JKN Global Group and Legacy Holing Group USA Inc. (co-owned by Raul Rocha and Anne Jakrajutatip), will sell the pageant to him, despite no formal negotiations having begun.

Former MUO executives Paula Shugart and Shawn McClain are scheduled to visit the Philippines in January to discuss the potential buyout.

Singson stated he is willing to incur losses for the sake of acquiring the brand for the country, as pageantry is popular among Filipinos.

He also mentioned that his daughter, Richelle Singson-Michael, who chaired the Miss Universe 2016 Host Committee, will manage the MUO if the acquisition is successful.

Shugart previously served as MUO president until her resignation in 2023.
