CFO encourages dual citizenship for Filipinos abroad

The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) is encouraging Filipino immigrants who have become naturalized citizens of other countries to reacquire their Filipino citizenship through dual citizenship.

This initiative allows them to retain the benefits of their Filipino status while keeping their foreign citizenship.

Rodrigo Garcia Jr., CFO Policy, Planning, and Research Division chief, highlighted that acquiring dual citizenship offers 'the best of both worlds'.

Republic Act 9225, the Dual Citizenship Law, facilitates this process by allowing natural-born Filipinos who acquired foreign citizenship to retain or reacquire their Filipino citizenship.

The procedure involves taking an oath before a Philippine Consular office.

The processing fee for dual citizenship is approximately $50 or P2,900.
