Central Visayas police intensify POGO monitoring after ban directive

Central Visayas police are intensifying monitoring for Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to ban them.

The PNP and local government units (LGUs) are expected to collaborate on intelligence monitoring of POGO operations in the region.

Authorities previously monitored five POGOs in Cebu, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu, but these are no longer active and authorities are continuously investigating.

A licensed POGO in Cebu was closed in 2022 after being used as a front for illegal activities.

For now, police confirm there are no POGOs operating in Central Visayas.

Cebu City's acting Mayor has ordered a review of all registered businesses to identify any POGO-like activities disguised as legitimate businesses.

The Cebu City Business Permit and Licensing Office is tasked with conducting on-site inspections of establishments suspected of POGO-like activities.

Cebu City currently has no registered POGO operations among its 40,000 registered businesses this year.
