CCG uses LRAD to harass PCG ship in West Philippine Sea

A Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) vessel used a long-range acoustic device (LRAD) to harass the Philippine Coast Guard's (PCG) BRP Cabra off the coast of Zambales in the West Philippine Sea.

Philippine Navy spokesperson Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad stated that the use of the LRAD demonstrates Beijing's heightened aggression in the WPS.

He also highlighted China's illegal presence, coercive actions, and deceptive messaging regarding their territorial claims.

The LRAD can emit high-decibel sound levels capable of causing pain and potential hearing damage.

Trinidad emphasized that this incident, along with other events like the arrest of a Chinese national conducting intelligence surveillance, contributes to a clearer picture of China's activities in the region.

Despite the harassment, the PCG maintained its presence and mission.
