CBCP calls for masses for Pope Francis

Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) President Pablo Virgilio Cardinal David has urged churches nationwide to hold masses and prayers for the eternal repose of the soul of Pope Francis, who died at age 88.

Filipinos in New York, including Consul General Senen Mangalile, joined a special Mass at Saint Patrick's Cathedral in Manhattan for the late pontiff.

The Mass was presided over by New York's Timothy Cardinal Dolan, who will also attend Pope Francis' funeral and the papal conclave.

Pope Francis visited New York in 2015, and his photo and the chair he used during a prayer service are currently displayed at Saint Patrick's Cathedral.

Cardinal Dolan expressed gratitude for Pope Francis' life and teachings, noting his humility and strength even in his final moments.

In the Philippines, the Diocese of Butuan is ringing church bells every evening and holding a novena of Masses for nine consecutive days for the repose of Pope Francis' soul.

The Dioceses of Tandag and Prosperidad have also called on their respective faithful to honor Pope Francis through specific devotional practices.
