Cayetano wants opposition, religious leaders in infrastructure commission

Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano is advocating for the inclusion of the political opposition and religious leaders in the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).

Cayetano believes that incorporating opposition members would promote fairness and drew parallels to mixed cabinets in crisis-stricken countries.

Malacañang, however, rejected the proposal, with Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin stating that the ICI members are already independent and chosen for their non-partisanship.

Bersamin argued that it is unnecessary to label members as coming from the opposition, as their independence ensures objectivity.

He added that while he agrees with the sentiment of fairness, the administration may "see things differently" regarding the inclusion of opposition members.
