Cavite Rep Barzaga resigns from NUP, denies ousting Speaker Romualdez plot

Cavite Representative Francisco "Kiko" Barzaga has resigned from the National Unity Party (NUP) and bolted out of the House majority coalition.

The resignation follows accusations by NUP Chairperson Ronaldo Puno that Barzaga was soliciting signatures to oust House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

Barzaga vehemently denied these claims, stating that the accusation of collecting signatures against Romualdez is false.

He clarified that his earlier statement regarding Puno's resignation was misinterpreted, suggesting Puno should resign only if his removal from the deputy speakership was inevitable.

Barzaga explained that Puno was not capable of defending the reputation of the lower house.
