Castelo named new OVP spokesperson

Former Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary Ruth Castelo has been appointed as the new spokesperson for the Office of the Vice President (OVP).

Castelo stated that Vice President Sara Duterte instructed her to focus on conveying the OVP's projects and programs and not to be an "attack dog".

She clarified that her role will cover issues surrounding the OVP, while Atty. Michael Poa will continue to respond to impeachment-related matters.

Castelo dismissed the idea that her appointment was to counter Palace spokesperson Claire Castro, emphasizing her directive to be forthright with the OVP's message.

Castelo mentioned that she volunteered for the role and was not recruited, having submitted an application to help the OVP.

She left the DTI in 2023 after being placed on floating status following a raid she authorized on a Davao-based steel company.

Castelo also stated that she shares the Vice President's fighting spirit and believes in her ability to overcome challenges.
