Carlos Yulo and Alex Eala lead PSA Athlete of the Year race

Gymnast Carlos Yulo and tennis player Alex Eala are the leading contenders for the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Athlete of the Year award for 2025.

Yulo, a 25-year-old Olympian, secured a gold medal in the vault and a bronze in the floor exercise at the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta.

He also dominated the continental stage, winning gold in floor exercise and three bronze medals at the Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Jecheon, Korea.

Eala, 20, achieved a career milestone by becoming the first Filipina to break into the WTA Top 50 rankings.

Her notable achievements include reaching the semifinals of the Miami Open, winning her first WTA 125 title in Mexico, and capturing a historic Southeast Asian Games tennis gold medal for the Philippines after a 26-year drought.
